Aurora Weight Care: Medical Weight Management

A weight-loss injection is a prescription medication used to treat overweight and obesity. It contains active ingredients such as Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, which help reduce hunger, increase feelings of fullness, and support sustainable weight loss.

The weight-loss injection acts on the body's natural hunger and satiety centers in the brain. GLP-1-based medications mimic a naturally occurring satiety hormone, helping to reduce appetite, slow gastric emptying, and decrease so-called "food noise"—the constant thoughts and preoccupation with food.

Weight loss results vary depending on metabolism, lifestyle, and adherence to treatment. Many patients lose more than 20% of their body weight when weight-loss medication is combined with a healthy, balanced diet and regular physical activity.

This treatment may be suitable for adults with obesity (BMI ≥ 30) or overweight (BMI ≥ 27) accompanied by obesity-related conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lipid disorders, or sleep apnea. Suitability for treatment is determined through an individual medical assessment.

Tolerance and side effects can vary from person to person. The most common side effects include nausea, a feeling of fullness, diarrhea, and constipation. These symptoms typically occur during the initial phase of treatment and often improve after a few weeks.

The Adipositas Zentrum offers modern medical therapies using GLP-1 and dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists, including Semaglutide (Ozempic®, Wegovy®) and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®). The most appropriate treatment option is determined individually during a medical consultation.

The Aurora Weight Care Program combines regular medical supervision with measurable results through 3D body scanning and laboratory testing. Nutritional counseling and access to strength-training exercises support sustainable, evidence-based weight management.

Treatments are provided on-site by Dr. Kanita Selimovic and Dr. Fritz Höllerer, both experienced general practitioners. Nutritional counseling is provided via telemedicine by Else Mack, BSc, Registered Dietitian.

The cost depends on the specific medication, dosage, and duration of treatment. Prices at selected pharmacies start at approximately €165 per month and can reach up to €581 per month at the highest dosage. The Adipositas Zentrum will be happy to provide detailed pricing information during a personal consultation.

Coverage depends on the diagnosis, insurance provider, and medical indication. In most cases, patients are responsible for the cost of the medication themselves.

Depending on the terms of your policy, private health insurance may cover part or all of the costs associated with obesity treatment. Coverage should be confirmed directly with your insurance provider in advance.
